Weather did not dampen the Saturday turn-out of the annual Christmas camp held at Timber Hills Farm. This event filled quickly and everyone enjoyed a wonderful, terrific, heart-warming, love-my-barn-family day. The riding camp staff headed by stable owners Renae and Mark VanZomeren, local educators Beth Holcomb and Tilly Woodward, and were assisted by incredibly capable helpers from the barn’s show team. Lauren, Haley, Rachel, Sydney, Avis, Nadine, Maren Egging and Hannah Blom lended a hand and their riding expertise. Six kind hearted lesson horses gave many their first ride on horseback, and almost everyone trotted and practiced steering around cones. Most of these kids had never touched a horse before!
Beth Holcomb, was in charge of educating the campers about the different horses as she led campers around teaching horse terminology and providing everyone with a background on each of the horses at the barn. By the end of the day, campers could tell the difference between a chestnut and a bay, and what stockings and blazes were on a horse! Tilly kept the campers busy by helping each camper make and design their own denim bags decorated with show ribbons. Each camper left with those bags home stuffed with goodies about riding and the history of Timber Hills.
We are so appreciative of everyone attending and we look forward to next year!
